Making Things Happen
March 22, 2007
Okay folks, Skinny here. It’s been a busy week getting the layout of the page and all the various pieces of HTML working together, but I finally have a spare minute to make an actual post.
We’re going to continue to improve things by adding Picassa galleries to the site, enabling us to have images and make things generally more interesting.
I also want to take the opportunity to formally announce that I’m starting a campaign to get a Chipotle opened up here in Seoul.
Some time ago I contacted the corporation through their website proposing the idea. Several weeks went by with no response, when I finally got a response. Since then I haven’t done anything else about it, but I have had a long-standing plan to email them a few pictures of western business that are thriving in prime locations in Seoul.
I’m thinking about other options as well, such as an online petition, MySpace page, etc, so that in a few months I can send it back to the people that contact me and say, “Look at X number of people that are on this website and likely to be repeat customers of a Chipotle in Seoul.”
I’ve also done a little bit of research and seen that foreign companies such as Chipotle, which do NOT typically franchise, usually have special half-and-half arrangements (sorry, I don’t know fancy business words) with a Korean corporation. So, I need to find some prospects for this as well.
Anyway, I need to run. Look for bigger and better things to continually develop here at Seoul Steve’s while we come the number 1 source of events and activities going on in Seoul and Korea.

If you’ve got a craving for some good ‘ole Bayou cookn’, head on over to the JW Marriott in Seoul.
The JW Grill is having a special “New Orleans” promotion running until the 20th of April.
Delight you tastebuds with some Creole, crawfish-stuffed fillet mignon w/Bordelaise sause, Cajun Style Rack of Lamb, and more…
I’ll be there this weekend–Stay tuned for a review!
Seoul Entrepreneurs Club
March 21, 2007
This goes out to all those peeps with hairbrained (and even half-hairbrained) ideas. Let’s unite!
How many of us have said, “Oh, i could do that better” or “blah blah blah would really be successful in Korea.”
Raise your hand–you know who i’m talking to…
So, my idea is simple: we create a club for networking, brainstorming, motivation, swapping info, investing, and hopefully create some pretty cool business opportunities.
Joint Ventures, Skinny…that’s the word you were looking for. Good luck with Chipolte. But you need a company to sign the JV with Chipolte. Shinsegae (Samsung)brought in Starbucks if i’m not mistaken…SK Corp brings in Ford, Dodge, a Jeep vehicles…Lotte brought in Krispy Kreme…All the family restaurants also brought in by other conglomerates.
Let’s form an online forum first and foremost, then progress with actual meetings…

A few years ago i did a short stint as a volunteer with the Seoul Help Center for Foreigners. It was set up by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to help foreigners living in Seoul get around with more ease. Questions ranged from tax issues, labor law, real estate to more complicated subjects like, “Where can i buy….(live Crawfish for example)”
I tell you, we saw it all. Actually, i probably gave my colleagues so many headaches because it was i who always had a few questions of my own…(like the crawfish question above). I also wanted to know importing rules and regulations, companies that sold “Galbi” tables, Pro Bono Legal Help (long story), and the location of the go-cart tracks around town.
Let me say this: i got all the information that i could ever want–sometimes it took a few days, but usually anything i asked, i got the low down from the group of talented “researchers”.
So, here’s a plug for the Seoul Help Center for Foreigners…check it out.
