For wine drinkers in Seoul

May 20, 2007

Okay, so I’m on a wine kick ever since I went to a wine tasting for Pieroth Wines several months ago (come to think of it, I should make an extensive write-up of their wine tastings. It makes for a nice, low-key night out, especially with a date). Since then I went to the COEX wine and spirits expo and found a very good wine shop near my house that even offers sommelier classes.

Thing is, I don’t really think I’ve learned much. I’m not trying to become a snob or anything. I just know that I’ve had some really good wines and some really bad wines and I’d like to figure out how to choose more of the former and less of the later and perhaps explain why. I also have a respect for the history and craft of making wine through the ages that makes me want to learn more about it.

Whereas it took me about two days to learn everything I ever wanted to know about coffee and then some (not just brewing it, but roasting and grinding yourself), wine is proving to be considerably more complicated. However, Thirsty Work was a big help and Wine Books carries it so you can get it in Korea. I even wrote a review of it on Amazon.
Thirsty Work

The point of all this? I recently found the Wine Korea blog. I really hope it takes off, but from the looks of it, I don’t think it will. I’m going to leave some nice comments though to see if I can get the person to keep it going.

I’m visiting Diony Castle winery tomorrow, by the way. Hope it’s cool.
