Call for Help
July 17, 2007
An urgent call for blood donation is going around the expat circles this morning, specifically for blood type A. If you’ve traveled out of the country any time in the last year you are disqualified.
You can read the full story and get phone numbers of the people coordinating the effort at Marmot’s Hole.
The Seoul Government’s new site…not bad.
July 16, 2007
I was quite impressed when i saw the new Visitseoul.net website that had recently been launched by the Seoul Metro Government. (This must have something to do with the city’s goal of attracting 12 million visitors by 2010!)
This site is a one stop place for visiting historical, cultural, and consumer oriented places around the city. It’s got activities and events, lodging and dining, and even a section on the city itself–historically speaking that it.
Speakers of Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese will no doubt find great use for this website.

Learn the ancient art of cooking “Samgyetang”(chicken soup)
July 16, 2007
Apparently the SHC (Seoul Help Center for Foreigners) is offering a class in cooking the summertime hit dish, “Samgyetang.” Why eating hot soup on a hot day is relaxing is still beyond me. ( i’ve been told that eating warm/hot dishes in the summer waste less energy for your body) But, besides the fact that it’s a hot dish and the fact that it’s the middle of summer–don’t let that stop you cause it’s some good eating. And i know these folks personally down at the SHC, you are in for a good time!

Getting your smoke on
July 15, 2007
For the cigar-lovers out there, THE source for Cuban cigars in Korea is Pierre’s (Last update: 2001, but I do believe I saw the shop in person about 6 months ago), located in the Intercontinental Hotel in COEX.
I’ve heard that this is the only true Cuban cigar importer in Korea, and this is the only shop that it runs, aside from its warehouse.
I found tidbits on a Seoul Cigar club online, but the info was a bit old. I sent some emails and am waiting for a response.
Cubans, and other fine cigars, can also be found in any upscale hotel around town.
But be careful, Cigaraficianado.com reports that fake H. Upmann Havanas have been spotted around Seoul. (More counterfeits)
Reminder: It is illegal for U.S. Citizens to buy and consumer Cuban cigars, even on foreign soil and purchasing with foreign-earned income (you could write your congressman, but I doubt it will change anything…)
