Getting good value out of Starbucks in Korea
August 28, 2007
Stay with me on this one…
So I fired up my google reader this morning and saw some interesting articles on Slate about Alberto Gonzales’ resignation.
From there I spotted a snippet about Jim Cramer ranting (the video) about the market meltdown in the US and calls for the Fed to lower the interest rates (a more entertaining Cramer video). As a person with heavy student loans around my neck, my ears are always open for news on interest rates, as I still need to consolidate.
Now, finally we’ve arrived upon your tip for today. From here I spot another feature called “How to Hack Starbucks.” Now, that article doesn’t actually give much of a ‘how to,’ but it points to a website that does. Now, not only do I not care about tea drinks (except for the frozen green tea Latte), but I’d have to figure out how to say all that in Korean before giving it a shot. It could be worth it just to know if it works out, though I couldn’t vouch for the quality of the final product since I’ve never had the original before. However, there’s another tip on getting a better, stronger, cappuccino (also an excellent lesson on second degree price discrimination (I think) for all of you learning about economics) that could be worth trying out… but I have a feeling that the Korean Baristas will just stare at me blankly, if my experience ordering off the menu, or even asking them to hold my tomatoes, at other places holds true.
‘Korea Pop Wars’ Makes the Blogroll
August 27, 2007
ZenKimchi had a slew of new postings come across my Google Reader this morning, one of which included a link to an article about a nice Jazz club in the Hongdae area.
I followed the link to the Korea Pop Wars blog and realized that I’d been to this blog before.
Wow, it’s improved, and a lot of the content is on the same track as us, although with a slightly more academic bent to things.
Anyway, I will be reading the blog frequently from now on. I suggest you do too.

For the past year Maska’s Cigars, in the Marriott Hotel at Express Bus Terminal, has been helmed by a man named Vince Lee and his wife Jinny; and they have a plan.
More on the Gangnam Hooters
August 23, 2007
I dropped by the Gangnam Hooters again last night, and I must say, I had a much better experience than last time.
It seems pretty much everything has improved, and I even chatted briefly with the General Manager, who hails from South Carolina, USA. Super nice guy with interesting stories about opening Hooters stores in China before coming to Korea.
It was also the first time for me to sample the Hooters Philly Cheesesteak, and the appetizer nachos. Both were much more generous portions than expected. Those nachos are easily the best value on the menu.
My friend even talked his way into a free beer for participating in a game, in spite of losing (he hammed it up for the camera that was there recording, even re-enacting his loss because they missed the shot)
Tip: Just pay the extra 700 won to get guacamole for your nachos. The scoops are very generous, considering the cost of guacamole in Korea. I would estimate about two ice cream scoops-worth.
English Speaking Medical Care and Doctors in Korea
August 17, 2007
Spicy and I have been swamped working on a big project for the site that we’ll announce soon. We have a couple things in the works that we’re very excited about. Anyway, I need to keep my lips sealed until we’re certain about them, but let’s just say that we’re pumped, and very encouraged because everyone we meet and shake hands with about our site is as excited about our site as we are, and that’s very encouraging.
Anyhow, I wanted to break up this dry spell by quickly passing on an important link that I found for English speaking Medical Care providers in Korea (especially Seoul, but there are a few mentioned from other areas).
