The U.S. Embassy Speaks about new E-2 rules
December 31, 2007
I just received my monthly citizen’s services email from the U.S. Embassy, which included bit about the new regulations. I have already forwarded this email to Mr. Lee of the Immigration service with whom I have already exchanged a few emails on the topic.
Here is the relevant section of the email:

Learning Korean Online

I’ve been meaning to write a post about learning Korean for a LONG while and haven’t gotten around to it. Well, now I have a little motivation since I’ve added an affiliate advertiser to our site.

New Year’s Eve
December 29, 2007
I hope everyone’s holiday season has been going wonderfully!
Mine has been great and it’s time to start thinking about what to do for New Year’s Eve. In my case, I’ll be attending the party at Bar Rouge in the basement of the Marriott Hotel. From 7 to 10 it’s all the wine and scotch you can drink. Call 02) 6282-6763 for reservations.
For those of you planning to head up to Itaewon, the Kabinett wine bar is hosting a blowout event with all you can drink wine! Click on the image below for the full details:
That’s not everything that’s going on, but I thought I’d reward Kabinett for emailing me directly and give them a special mention. Thanks! For other events, please check our calendar.
Oh by the way, you have until New Year’s Eve to order your Seoul Steves Christmas Wine Pack!
A Letter to the Immigration Office
December 27, 2007
In response to a letter from the Immigration department that was posted by the Korea Times, I have sent the following email to the writer (I have edited a few parts out for my own privacy):
Mr. Lee:
My name is Steve ****. I would like to, first of all, thank you for your explanatory letter in the Korea Times. Although the new regulations do not apply to me (unless I were to begin teaching, which I may do again some day), I am very interested in these issues because they effect my friends, as well as the way Koreans view all foreigners in Korea, whether they are English teachers or not. Venti-size spotted at a Seoul Starbucks
December 21, 2007
Okay, I saw this several WEEKS ago actually when I was in the Starbucks behind Seoul City Hall, but for some reason I can no longer email pictures taken with my cellphone to myself, so I waited until I could fix that little problem so that I could post the visual evidence.
Well that never happened and pretty soon I forgot all about it, so it’s probably not exactly breaking news anymore.
But anyway, the renowned ‘Venti’ size coffee cup is now for sale at the Starbucks on the street that goes kinda behind Seoul City Hall.
I’m hoping it spreads to other locations as well, or maybe it is and it just hasn’t made it south of the Han yet (I don’t get up north that often, to be honest), but the venti size would mean that I would be spending more time in Starbucks, for sure, the venti coffee of the day got me through grad school (there was a small Starbucks in the lobby of the building my office was in).
