Expat Arts and the 40 Days

December 6, 2007

Okay, so I’m the first to admit that we haven’t featured the expat arts scene in Korea, but it’s better late than never.

First of all, a CD release party for a Seoul Steves favorite, The 40 Days:

Dec. 22nd at Club TA in Hongdae. Show starts at 10:30. Galaxy Express and Bamboo Wife are playing with us. 10,000w entry gets you a free CD.

Secondly, check out Expat Arts Magazine, designed by and for expats from all over the world, but with a focus on Asia.

Rock Climbing in Seoul

December 6, 2007

Here is a great article written by the Seoul City Gov’t about rock climbing in Seoul. Most people don’t really know about this great activity, and even if you are a climber, odds are you don’t know where you can do it in Seoul.

All the information you need is right here. It’s got detailed information about where to go and how much it costs…Just to let you know ahead of time, the cost for these walls is FREE. That’s right. If you already have your own equipment and gear, you can use these facilities free of charge. If you are in need of instruction, there are several companies that offer lessons at a reasonable rate.

Again, check out the Seoul Gov’t website here for more information.

Marche de Noel in BangbaeDong this Saturday 12/8…

December 6, 2007

Hey, this one is right in my neck of the woods.  A long time native to Bangbae, this is a must for all you expats looking to kick off the holiday season.

What is it? It’s called, Marche de Noel, which means, Christmas Market in French (i think…)

Where: Dragon Park in the French district of Bangbaedong. (Not that difficult to find…let me know if you are planning on going.)

Time: 10am until 4pm

There will be various French delicacies for sale at reasonable prices. Even a visit by St. Nicholas at 11:30 and 2:30 will make the event extra special for the children in attendance.  And if anyone has any tricks for getting their 2year old to sit on Santa’s lap without going crazy…please let me know!

If you can read French, go to the AFC site here.

Changing visa regulations

December 5, 2007

As a large portion of our readership is native English-speaking English teachers, I thought I would link to this post over on the Metropolitician about a proposal for a totally new visa.

His proposal would seek to reward the people that exhibit professionalism and a commitment to Korea, which would in turn encourage qualified professionals and make it harder for those that give the rest of us a bad name to find work, all the while improving the reputation of foreigners in Korea in the eyes of Koreans.

Warning: It’s long, but it’s worth reading.

In addition, Metro was recently arrested for calling the police to report a drunken ajosshi harassing him.

Also, just in case you’ve been living in a cave and haven’t heard about the controversy, do yourself a favor and read up on the new changes over on EFL Geek.
