St. Patty’s Day…Seoul Style

March 10, 2008

800p1_river.JPGAs a former native of Chicago…the bar’s set rather high for a proper St. Patty’s Day. But, for those in the know, Seoul has its own unique and homegrown festivities–now in it’s 8th year. Started in 2000, the events have grown steadily into an event any Irishman can be proud of. With almost 6,000 in attendance at last years parade, Festival Sponsors are hoping that the high profile location (the Cheonggyecheong) and support from many Korean communities will more than double last years turnout. Whatever your choice of activities for this years celebrations, you will do doubt be pleased with what Seoul has to offer.

This Saturday’s events kick off at the Cheonggyecheong Plaza at 12:30 (March 15th) There will be live entertainment, food, drinks, and the annual parade. The parade starts at 2pm. Festivities wil go on until about 6pm. Traditional Irish music and dancing are all part of the events. Check out the itinerary for the day’s events here.

Drinkers can find comfort in the annual “drink-the-bar-dry” Hooley at Buck Mulligans in the SFC(Seoul Finance Center) downtown Seoul. Drink all the Guiness and Kilkenny you want. Live music too provided by The 40 Days and Bard. Cost is 50,000 and can be purchased directly from Buck Mulligans. Advanced purchase required.

St. Patty’s Day @Wolfhound Irish Pub, Itaewon is hosting a “St. Patrick’s Drink N Craic Madness” from Thursday (March 13th) through Monday (March 17th). There will be live Irish Music on Friday (March 14th). And there highlighed event, the St. Patricks Day party on Monday (March 17th) with live music, drink specials, and plenty of good times.

There will plenty of bars around town offering their own parties and green beer for this years St. Patty’s Day, if you have some information that would be useful to others, send me an email and i’ll get it posted.

PS. If anyone is interested in dying the Cheonggyecheong Green “Chicago Style” let’s get that going!
