When you’re living submerged in a language you aren’t familiar with, getting any kind of information is a challenge. As nearly all my articles have referenced a website somewhere in them, I thought it might be useful to list my top websites for information and motivation for getting in shape. Read more

Duksung Women’s University Interior Design Studio Designs for Seoul Museum of History Plaza

Another announcement from Marga Jann about Duksung Women’s University Interior Design Studio

Duksung Women’s University Interior Design Studio Designs for Seoul Museum of History Plaza

Six Spatial Culture Interior Design students from Duksung Women’s University, under the mentorship of Visiting Professor Marga Jann, AIA, RIBA (Principal, POETIC LICENSE), have been inspired to redesign the Museum of History plaza area. The redesign was the subject of a competition sponsored by the Museum last year, with URI Environment Design Firm Inc winning first prize. The Duksung design team presented their work to both URI and Museum Director Kim in May, and hopefully some of their ideas, like the smart glass history clock and exhibit banners, outdoor movie theater, sound and light show, patchwork landscaping and zig-zag stream, will be reflected in the final, built design.

The Duksung studio examined the implications of designing for other cultures, working on the Museum plaza as a contemporary interpretation of Korean culture, and public areas for the U.S. Embassy here as a counterpoint. Students particularly enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Museum staff and URI directly; they made numerous visits to and presentations at the museum, and received critique input from the museum curators as well as visiting professionals Moon Eun-Mi and Don Shaw.
